Halswell Hall Incorporated

The Halswell Community Hall is owned by the residents of Halswell via an Incorporated Society (charity) and is maintained and operated by a committee of unpaid volunteers comprising residents and interested people

The Halswell Hall has a large main hall adjacent to a supper room.

 

The hall has a stage and sprung floor, making it ideal for dance, fitness groups, theatre productions, community meetings and social gatherings and occasions.

The address is 450 Halswell Road, Halswell, Christchurch 8025. It is located at the busy intersection of Sparks and Halswell Roads. (Diagonally opposite the Halswell Community Hub.)

Capacity and Dimensions

  • Main hall: ideal (fire rated) for large gatherings up to 200 people

  • Supper room: suitable (fire rated) for smaller gatherings for up to 50 people

  • fire rated for 250 people max for the whole building

  • Hall space floor area is 15.3m long x 10.8m wide

  • Supper room (Sunbeam Lounge) floor area is 5.5m long x 10.8m wide

  • Ceiling height in main hall space is approx 3.5m (suitable for bouncy castles).

 

Stage

Stage in main hall space is 2.6m d x 9.6m w. It has a centred, 6m w x 2.4m h proscenium arch with operable stage curtains. The stage can be extended to 3.4m d with lift up flaps or out to 4.6m d with modular platforms (stored under the stage). There are lighting bars over the stage and part of the hall space for performance lighting (not supplied).

Hours of Hire

  • Monday to Thursday and Sunday 8am to 10pm

  • Friday and Saturday 8am to 12midnight.

A ramp to double doors into the hall space, two accessible parking spaces, accessible toilet.

  • two domestic fridges, one with freezer compartment

  • limited cutlery.

The kitchen is not a commercial facility. (Not certified by the Council.)

​

If you hire the hall space and the supper room is occupied by another user, you will need to literally move around the outside of the building between the kitchen and hall spaces to avoid disturbing that user. (There is currently no way to access the kitchen from the hall space without moving through the supper room.)

​

Alcohol

Alcohol consumption is permitted. BYO is allowed for private functions. A special license will be required for alcohol sales. See the Christchurch City Council website consents and licences page. 

​

We do NOT accept bookings for teenage (eg 18th) or 21st celebrations.

​

Noise control

We have a Resource Consent for noise until 12 midnight only. You must have finished your event by 12 midnight and be out of the carpark by 12.30 am. 

​

Cleaning

The hirer is solely responsible for cleaning the hall after the event to a standard prior to the hire.​ You clean up after your hire period, leaving the spaces clean and tidy for the next user - as you would wish to find them.

​​

Toilets

Ladies, gentlemen and accessible toilets. Toilet paper, soap and hand dryers supplied.

​

Access

There are no keys. Hirers meet with a volunteer at the Hall at the start of their set up or hire period for a health and safety briefing. They will be given the code for the door and burglar alarm at the briefing. 

​

Decorations

Please put up decorations in a manner the does not damage the hall in any way.

Constructed in 1913.

New members of the Incorporated Society are always welcome. There is no cost to join. You will be invited to the Annual General Meeting.
